Simply stunning

Santorini (or officialy Thira) is an island in the Southern Aegean region of Greece, located 200km or 120 miles to the southeast of mainland Greece. It forms part of the Cyclades group of islands and has a population of around 15,000 people. Its principal city is Fira, located on top of a cliff of Santorini volcano's (which is an active one) caldera and offering stunning views. The easiest way to get to Santorini is by airplane, with regular flights from Athens and during the summer months from many other locations in Europe.

The main sights on Santorini are the awe-inspiring scenery, the charming towns with their breathtaking views, and the volcano. All around the island you will find the type of iconic churches you often see on picture with their white stone and blue domes.

The beaches here are either red or black rock due to the volcanic nature of the island. The most famous one is aptly called Red Beach, located close to the village of Akrotiri. [Review by travelindicator]
