Sometimes you imagine that there are no surprises left and you know practically all that a region has to offer. Travelindicator is based in South East Asia so knows the place pretty well. And then you sit down with a friend for coffee one day and he tells you "I am going to Pulau Redang next week". Wait, what? Where? Being made aware of this place we went and checked it out, and what we found did not disappoint.
Redang Island is located off the coast of Terengganu in north-eastern peninsular Malaysia. Part of the Terengganu Marine Park and since not too long ago blessed with its own airport (RDN), this is an island where relatively up-market that is famous for its appealing transparent waters, wide beaches and rich marine life. It is also an island that is (apparently, as we found out) steadily building a reputation as being perhaps the most lovely island on Malaysia's east coast.
In all fairness though, don't come here expecting to do much more than lazing around at your resort (which are mostly clustered together) or spotting some coral reefs from up close. We dare you to find any review that does not mention the words "beach", "snorkelling" or "diving". Trust us, you won't find any. At most you can head trekking into the jungle, but other than that transportation is limited and sights non-existent.
The Redang season runs from March until September. [Review by travelindicator]
