Easy to visit from almost anywhere in Croatia

Thick beech forests and crystal clear lakes. Other turquoise colored lakes separated by natural dams. Caves, waterfalls and cascades, rocky karsts. Good, do we have your attention? This is Plitvice (Lakes) National Park in central Croatia, which according to many accounts is one of the most scenic places of nature in all of Europe.

Less than a 2 hour drive from Zagreb or 2.5 hours from Split, UNESCO-listed Splitvice is a fairly easy visit if you are in the country anyway, and in our opinion a visit is totally worth it. About a dozen hikes start out from the visitor's centre (where you will need to buy a ticket that, last time we checked, should set you back about $20), some a lot longer and tougher than others. The only downside to Splitvice? You won't be the only one on those trails. [Review by travelindicator]
