Ask a random European youth about Mykonos and there is a good chance he will be able to tell you of at least a friend that is going there in the summer to party. This island in Greece's South Aegean, part of the Cyclades archipelago, has a fairly arid hilly interior with some picturesque villages dotted around it, but most people really only come here for three reasons: beaches, sun and clubbing.
One word you will consistently see associated with Mykonos is cosmopolitan. This island is highly developed and its reputation as a party mecca throws it in the same bucket as the likes of for instance Ibiza. It's not just a beach island that also happens to have some clubs on it, it's more like a clubbing destination that happens to feature beaches as well! Paradise beach with the famous Tropicana Beach Bar and numerous other clubs is the place to be in that regard. If you want a more family-friendly or quiet kind of beach, you will have no trouble whatsoever with finding those as well. Just keep in mind that you will be searching for peace and quiet on a party island, and not vice versa (people partying on an island that is meant for peace and quiet..)
In Mykonos town you must have a look at the windmills and the Little Venice District at the coast, while Delos island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is half an hour by boat away. In summer, Mykonos is served by charter flights arriving here from any northern European destination you can think of (probably). [Review by travelindicator]
