Out of a wild west movie

Monument Valley is part of a Navajo Reserve on the border of Utah and Arizona
Wild west scenery featuring red rock, towering plateaus and spires
Many movies were filmed here

Right on the Arizona-Utah state line lies Monument Valley, famous for its iconic sandstone plateaus and buttes, as is apparently the accurate terminology.

Situated in the Navajo Nation Reservation, the landscape here is like that right out of a wild west movie. That is not an empty statement, as literally dozens of movies were shot here, most famous amongst which for instance Stagecoach (1939) and How the West Was Won (1962) or a bit more recently Forrest Gump (1994).

The (unpaved) 17 mile scenic loop that goes around the valley is the best way to get up close with the majestic spires. [Review by travelindicator]
