Milford Sound is a fjord located in the southern parts of the South Island in New Zealand, that forms part of the Te Wāhipounamu UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you came to New Zealand for its awe-inducing scenery (and most of you would indeed have, we reckon), then Milford Sound should be fairly high, if not top, on your list of absolute must-sees during your trip here.
Milford Sound is a surreal type of place, offering the kind of sights that when you first lay eyes on them make you wonder whether you may have landed on another world. Milford Sound features deep dark waters surrounded by steep rocky cliffs and peaks, some snow-topped, that rise straight from the sea and are covered by a blanket of deep green trees and bushes from top to the very bottom. The waters feature penguins, seals, dolphins and even whales, while the cliffs feature rain forests housing waterfalls, lakes and ice fields.
Even the weather stats here are somewhat abnormal as the area gets anywhere between 7 and 9 meters of rain on annual basis - trust us when we say that even having covered hundreds of travel destinations we have not seen that before.
The best ways to explore Milford Sound are either by foot (the Milford Track is a classic) or by making your way onto the water on a cruise or even a kayak! [Review by travelindicator]
