Langkawi is an archipelago of Malaysia consisting of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, off northwestern Malaysia's coast in the state of Kedah. When most people speak of Langkawi they refer to the largest of these, Pulau Langkawi.
The beaches of Langkawi are well-known for being fantastic and clean, showcasing crystal clear water. A bit further inland you will find jungles, mountains, waterfalls and small villages to explore. By no means is this an over-commercialised tropical beach island, as Langkawi strikes a great balance between "business as usual" for the locals and admittedly well-developed areas for the tourists.
One of the main attractions here is the Langkawi cable-car, which takes visitors up to Mount Mat Cincang, or the second highest peak of Pulau Langkawi. It offers fantastic views over this sunny tropical island. [Review by travelindicator]
