Tranquility in the Andaman

Ko Jum is a small Thai island in the Andaman Sea
Contrary to nearby places like Koh Lanta, Phuket and Krabi almost entirely undeveloped
Come here for absolute peace and quiet and lazing your days away on the beach

North of Koh Lanta, south of Krabi, east of Phuket. Do we have a geographic image? Good. This is Ko Jum (the more hilly northern half is known as Ko Phu but we will just refer to it as Jum here) in the Andaman Sea off Thailand, a decidedly less touristy travel destination than the places we just mentioned at the start of this article.

We saw Ko Jum being described somewhere as the most easily accessible secluded island you will find in Thailand. And it's true that there is a good balance between the genuine peace and quiet you will encounter here and the effort you need to make to get here. In the high season you can take a ferry from Krabi to Koh Lanta which will stop at several of the resorts here. They will come to pick you up with longtail boats as there is no jetty here. Travel time is approximately 1:15. In the off-season it gets a bit more complicated, and you will need to take a taxi to Laem Kruat followed by a taxi-boat.

And once you're here, what is there to do? Nothing, and that is exactly the point! With only a handful of resorts and three fishing villages (with exactly one bar) where the local muslim population go about their day [TI clarification: obviously not at the bar!] the island can feel fairly deserted, or perhaps tranquil is a more positive and accurate description. Its beaches are mostly found along a 5km stretch along the west coast and are quiet and quite lovely. [Review by travelindicator]
