Fernando de Noronha is a Brazilian archipelago that consists of 21 islands and islets/rocks, approximately 370 km (230 miles) off the coast from Natal. The islands are a special municipality of the state of Pernambuco.
For those touring "mainland" Brazil Fernando de Noronha may be somewhat out of the way, but many who have been here will testify that with its crystal clear waters, rocky landscapes and rich wildlife AND marine life, it is also one of the country's most spectacular destinations. In fact, we have seen some of the beaches of Fernando de Noronha show up in global "best of" lists...
Out of the 21 islands, the main island is by far the largest and the only inhabited one, home to about 3,000 people. It is one of Brazil's hottest "eco" travel destinations, and there is lots to do here. Think diving, snorkeling, swimming and surfing, or hiking into the interior and simply enjoying the scenery...
