At just under 1,000km south-west of Darwin, and a 3 hours drive from Broome (Western Australia), lies Cape Leveque. This is the northern point of the Dampier Peninsula and King Sound, and is a spot famous for its marvelous unspoilt scenery featuring red sand rocks and blisteringly white sand beaches. Out in the ocean humpback whales are frequently spotted.

Unless you were planning to make the trip back and forth to Broome in a day, your only choice for accommodation is Kooljaman Camp, a (partly) aboriginal owned camping ground where you can rent a campsite, tent or log cabin. Getting here is an interesting by itself, as the first part of the way from Broome is by (orange) sand road. [Review by travelindicator]
