Spectacular hoodoos

Bryce Canyon is located in Utah, about 100 miles from the Grand Canyon
Famous for its red colored rock formations formed by erosion
Spectacular views from several spots, and a descend into the canyon is a must

If you ask us, Bryce Canyon is one of the most spectacular feats of nature anywhere on this planet, period. This National Park in Utah (whose name is a bit misleading as it in fact does not consist of canyons) is a top attraction for its visually stunning reddish colored rock formations and spires called "hoodoos". These were eroded over many millions of years by a system of streams and lakes that used to flow here.

Within the canyon you will find a series of "amphitheatres" filled with the aforementioned hoodoos. The Bryce Canyon Amphitheater is the prominent one, and some of the most dramatic views over it can be gotten from the Sunrise, Sunset, Bryce and Inspiration Points.

Although the views from above are spectacular, especially during sunrise or sunset, you will also want to descend into the canyon to get up to close to things. A variety of trails are available.

For lodging options, you can consider Bryce Canyon City, where you will mostly find small B&B's and chain motels. [Review by travelindicator]
