Bintan Island (Indonesia)

Resorts island

Bintan Island, or Pulau Bintan, is an island in the Indonesian Riau archipelago. The northern side of the island is covered by luxurious resorts competing with the likes of Bali, Langkawi or Phuket, whereas the rest of the island lives more up to its Indonesian background. Think quiet fishing villages, wooden hand-crafts, temples, mosques and markets. Here too you will find resorts, but they are overall of a lesser quality than in the north. Bintan lies in close proximity to Singapore (a 45-60 minutes ferry trip).

Our verdict? Bintan lacks the charm, sights and culture of Bali, and is overall less developed than Phuket. But if you are after good beaches, playing a game of golf and eating a nice dinner on a resort, Bintan is an absolutely safe bet. [Review by travelindicator]
