Temples and tradition, or beach parties and cocktails

Check out the colorful culture and scenery by day, party at nightPerhaps a bit overcrowded nowadays
Rice paddies, volcanoes, hindu templesThe beaches are excellent, though realise they are not of the white-sand variety!
Great food, friendly people

Bali is special.

Picturing this tropical island brings up a combination of smiles, temples, rice terraces, flower-petals, beaches and yes, even fantastic nightlife. Bali is a paradise in the most true sense of the word and it's laid-back attitude has made it one of the premier holiday destinations in the world.

What makes Bali stand out from the crowd is the diversity of what is on offer here. You can go to Tioman in Malaysia for fantastic beaches and scenery, or to Phuket in Thailand for much the same with a temple here or there added in to the mix. But at all times it is clear why you go there: beaches. In Bali there is more. Besides the beaches, which obviously draw a great number of tourists on their own merit, one can find a fantastic amount of things to do and explore inland. The amount of tourists going to Kuta or Seminyak for the beaches is perfectly kept in balance by the scores of tourists venturing inland to places like Ubud for exploring the fantastic scenery, monuments and hotspots of Balinese culture.

In the middle of Bali you will find mountains and volcanoes with a temple here or there. The western and northern parts of Bali are less frequented by tourists but make for good places to go diving or to enjoy the great weather in a less touristy atmosphere. [Review by travelindicator]
