Not only elephants

Addo Elephant National Park is the largest national park in South Africa's Eastern Cape
Most famous for its elephants, but also home to rhinos, hyenas, lions, zebras, and many more types of game
Overnight stays in the camp can be done at one of four main resting camps, outside of Addo there are many more places to stay

At a comfortable 1 hour drive to the north from Port Elizabeth lies Addo Elephant National Park. If you are planning to spend some time in the Eastern Cape, you'd be hard pressed to let this gem of a park - the third largest of its kind in the country - off your itinerary.

Although most famous for its hundreds of elephants that roam about freely here, a drive (or hike!) through the park will likely bring you eye-to-eye with a wide variety of game, including zebras, antelopes and buffalos. If you are lucky you might even spot a black rhino, hyena or a lion.

Featuring landscapes that range from arid and mountainous in the north (the Zuurberg Mountains) to the flat coastal vegetation in the south, the 1,640 square kilometer park is very popular with non-domestic tourists. There are four resting camps they can choose from, including the main camp, Matyholweni, Narina and Spekboom. Although nothing beats the charm of hearing wild animals roam about not too far from you at night, of course staying just outside of Addo there are many more good places to spend the night.
