Walvis Bay (or Walvisbaai in Afrikaans, meaning Whale Bay) is a city of over 60,000 people in Namibia. It is Namibia's only real harbor and its main center of tourist activity. The city itself is quite stretched and surrounded on all sides except the coast by desert.
Walvis Bay is not the most beautiful town, however the pace is quite relaxed, the long promenade facing the lagoon lined with villas is nice enough and the natural surroundings can keep one occupied. Besides the bay and its wildlife (most notably flamingos and other birds) there is the Dune 7 sand dune. A boat tour around the harbor may also be of interest. [Review by travelindicator]
