A stone's throw (or embarrassingly short flight) from Vancouver is Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. Another gorgeous city in this travel hoarders dream, collecting locations to visit in British Columbia is almost too easy. You will see on Registration plates everywhere the slogan 'Beautiful British Columbia' and they're quite spot on, it's just a really nice part of the world to visit and travel.
It's easy, safe, polite, fun, picturesque, nature filled and polite - you wonder if all of Canada is so gracious or if they just rounded up all the nicest Canadians to settle this region to create a positive global impression. I'm going to guess that to become a resident here there is a test where they count how many times you say 'please', 'thank you' and 'sorry' in a sentence...they're just really nice ok!
Personally I don't tend to list out all the (quote/unquote) Must See touristy things, but rather just take a stroll around downtown, find nice restaurants and cafes - slide into a bar at some point and ask some locals what I should check out whilst there.
They will inevitably mention the Butchart Gardens which are pretty stunning (and I'm not like super into gardens). During the summer they have fireworks set to music! And apparently during winter evenings, the gardens are 'lit up' (for those Suits fans) and include some 12 days of Christmas displays.
Another that may well get a mention if you go in the Summer is Inner Harbour which fills up with artists and buskers which creates a vibrant atmosphere. [Review by nikodonnell]
