If you drive south along the coast from Barcelona, it doesn't take long until you come across Tarragona. Roughly an hour to be precise.
This is the largest seaside city along the Costa Daurada and is famous for its Roman amphitheatre and colosseum, beaches and general bustling atmosphere in summer months. If you intend to visit the Costa Daurada but besides beaches and nightlife enjoy good food, culture and atmosphere, Tarragona is probably a good place to put on your agenda.
Beaches stretch out from the northern part of town. [Review by travelindicator]
