Sydney is the largest and oldest city in Australia, with a population of over 4.6 million and a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. Famous for its harbour, skyline and beaches, this city has much to be proud of and is not timid about being just that. There are few cities in the world where urban and beach life go together so seamlessly.
Exploring the harbour is probably where any tourist trip to the city will start. Here you will find Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, which are practically global icons and together with the skyline of the CBD in the background form the panorama of the Sydney Harbour. Around this area you can choose to walk the bridge, explore the Botanic Gardens or take a picture of the Sydney skyline across the water in Kirribilli.
There are some interesting cultural and historic things to be seen in the city, but probably the only must-must-must do when you're in Sydney is to explore the beaches. There are over a 100 of them, and some of them are amongst the (not arguably!) best in the world. They are picture perfect and many of them make for great surfing spots. The best of them are (arguably..) Bondi, Manly, Bronte, Coogee and Palm Beach, but dig a little deeper and you will find scenic spots for a swim devoid of the big crowds.
For those favouring activity of a more dry variety, there are some great national parks right on Sydney's doorstep which make for great hiking terrain. The Blue Mountains and Kosciuszko National Park are examples of areas that are in close reach. [Review by travelindicator]
