Stuttgart is a city in the south Germany with a population just over half a million (the metropolitan area is nearly 10 times bigger than that). It is the capital of Badem-Württemberg and home to the head offices of world famous car manufacturers like Porsche and Daimler. Built on and in between a hilly terrain and vineyards, the city is quite green and feels refreshingly different to other cities of the same size in Germany.
One thing that is somewhat lacking in and around Stuttgart however, are historical buildings, as the city was practically flattened in 1944. One of the buildings that was severely damaged was Schloss Stuttgart (Stuttgart Castle). Some decades after the war the building was thankfully renovated, and nowadays the Schlossplatz has taken up centre stage in the heart of Stuttgart once again.
When you go here, visit the brilliant Wilhelma Zoo or check out the Porsche and Mercedes-Benz museums. By all means enjoy some shopping, Swabian cuisine and nightlife too, but during your tip don't omit finding higher ground at one of the hills (Karlshöhe is recommended and has a Biergarten on top as bonus) to get an outlook over the city.
If you have a bit of time to spend, make your way to the impressive Hohenzollern Castle which is less than an hour by car away. [Review by travelindicator]
