Queenstown is a town in the Otago region of New Zealand's South Island. It is spectacularly situated on the turquoise Lake Wakatipu, with the Southern Alps stretching out around it. The Remarkables mountain range is, well, the most remarkable of them all, with its highest point reaching 2,319 meters.
Tourists arrive here from all over the world (the town may be small at 16,000 people but is home to an international airport receiving flights from for instance Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) to go hiking, walking, or more wild options like bungee-jumping, paragliding, canyoning or rafting.
In winter people come to ski and Queenstown feels more peaceful, whereas in the summer months young people flock to it for its magnificent combination of activities and night life. The town may be small but it is after all home to 30 bars. [Review by travelindicator]
