Port Antonio is the capital of the Portland parish in north-eastern Jamaica. If you are looking for a beach destination in the country that is far removed from the cruise ship crowds, you may want to look into this one.
In a way it's ironic that we would recommend it as such, as apparently it was here in the 1930s that tourism into the country took off. So it's not like people will look at you in shock and surprise here, but this friendly town around the natural East Harbour is just a little bit more quiet than average. At the end of the Titchfield peninsula around the bay you find the ruins of Fort George (now site of a high school), while in town you find some interesting buildings in Georgian style, such as the Courthouse.
Accommodation here is mostly in cottages and guesthouses. Navy Island is just off the coast and the famous Blue Lagoon is a 15 minutes drive away. [Review by travelindicator]
