Like a phoenix from the desert

Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and sixth largest city in the United States
Cultural hub for the Southwest with theaters, museums, an opera...

Phoenix, Arizona (pop 1.45 million) rises like a phoenix from the desert. OK, in my mind that sounded quite eloquent, but reading it again I am less sure. In any case, Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and the sixth largest city of the United States as a whole. Being by far the largest city in this part of the country means that if you happen to travel this way you will practically be drawn to it, and that is not a bad thing.

As long as you are not here in the midst of summer, that is, when temperatures can reach well above 40°C or 105°F. But at any other time of year, this sunny city is the beating cultural heart of the Southwest, offering visitors for instance an opera, theaters, excellent museums like the Phoenix Art Museum or Heard Museum (devoted to Indian culture), and much more. The (Desert) Botanical Gardens where a personal favorite of mine, along with the views over the city from South Mountain Park. [Review by travelindicator]
