Summer resort

A beach resort in summer
Old towns, mountains and national parks in easy reach; perhaps a convenient place to base yourself in in summer?

Pescara is the largest city in central Italy's Abruzzo region. It is situated on the Adriatic and has a mostly industrial background (port and metals). That though is not exactly apparent when you are here in summer and during the day the beaches - wide and more than a dozen kilometers in length - are fully packed. Come back in the evening to the same place and the sound of the beat will soon penetrate your ears from different directions.

Needless to say in winter the beach and party atmosphere dies down. We came across another travel website that describes the place as having "something for everyone" and then went on to say how great the museums and the sights are here. That is quite overdone. There are interesting old towns around here (Scanno, for example) and national parks and mountains are in easy reach, but besides a cathedral, some fairly interesting museums and Pescara Vecchia (old Pescara) with some old buildings and interesting architecture, there's not all that much to do in Pescara.
