Not quite the international household name that Vancouver or Toronto is, but Ottawa (pop. 0.8 million) is Canada's capital and has plenty of things to do and see. Located in eastern Canada's Ontario, in between Montréal and Toronto but closer to the former, the city was founded in 1826 and designated as Canada's capital in 1857.
Ottawa is a city with a regal feeling to it, and that can best be sensed around Parliament Hill. Built in Gothic revival style, when looking at the imposing building you could be forgiven for thinking that you are looking at the political center of an old European nation. This is the top tourist attraction in the city, and experiencing the Changing of the Guard ceremony is a must-see.
Its other main attraction is the endless list of fantastic museums that can be found around town. With places like the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian War Museum or the Canadian Museum of Civilization, you are basically spoilt for choice. [Review by travelindicator]
