Napier Travel Guide and Trip Resources

Art deco and vineyards

Napier was flattened in a 1930s earthquake and rebuilt, mostly in art deco style

Napier is a city of 60,000 on New Zealand's North Island, facing Hawke's Bay. In 1931 the city was flattened by a massive earthquake and subsequently rebuilt in the architectural style that was most in vogue back then: art deco, giving the city an interestingly different facade.

Besides art deco architecture, the beaches of Waimarama and Ocean beach are nearby, and the surrounding area is filled with vineyards and look-out points like Te Mata peak. [Review by travelindicator]
