Minneapolis is the largest city in the US state of Minnesota, and forms part of the larger urban area of the Twin Cities (the other main city in it being state capital Saint-Paul). At a 2.5 hour flight from New York and 7 hour drive from Chicago, it may be rather out of the way for most of us, but the city is attractive, friendly, has quite a bit to offer on the cultural front and is in fact quite trendy. So in short summary, Minneapolis is well worth a visit.
Look at the map of Minneapolis and the surrounding area and you notice something peculiar: around the city there is lake, after lake, after lake. The state gets nicknamed "land of 10,000 lakes" for good reason, and a visit to Minneapolis really isn't complete without exploring some of them. If you come in summer, bring your swimming gear. If you come in winter, bring your skates. There are too many parks and lakes worthy of a visit to mention, but Minnehaha Falls Park, Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake rank up there.
Cultural attractions include the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (which is free and has one of the most extensive collections of art in the country), Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and the world famous Guthrie Theater. [Review by travelindicator]
