City of legends

Memphis is the largest city in the southeastern U.S. state of Tennessee. The city has a population of over 650,000 and is situated on the Mississippi river (the river serves as the city's western border).

Former home of Elvis Presley, many jazz legends and the Civil Rights Movement, Memphis sometimes seems to be defined by the people that used to roam the streets here. Elvis' Graceland, Beale Street ("Home of the Blues") and Sun Studio are the top sights in the city and should not be missed. Of an entirely different nature is the National Civil Rights Museum, which is well worth a visit too.

If none of those strike your fancy, you've still got the Mississippi river (and a few national parks) to play around with. Or just go with the flow and explore the downtown area where you can find great places to eat on the cheap. Memphis barbecue is a must-try. [Review by travelindicator]
