Beach escape from Buenos Aires

Mar del Plata is a city of over half a million people at the Argentinian Atlantic Coast, at about a 4 hours drive from Buenos Aires. In the summer this beach resort and fishing port gets flooded with tourists from predominantly Buenos Aires finding their way to the beach.

The city's beaches are of course its premier attraction. The kilometers long Playas del Sur beaches are for the young and trendy and are a place to see and be seen, whereas the Playa Grande is the more family-friendly option. Besides beaches there are museums, theme parks and aquariums, while you can also expect to find great tourist infrastructure, with restaurants and bars aplenty. Although the beaches are quite wide, in summer they do get extremely crowded, so beware. [Review by travelindicator]
