Barbecue city

Kansas City straddles the borders of Kansas and Missouri
Not normally seen as a tourist destination, but with some interesting sights nevertheless
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve at a few hours drive

Set on the banks of the Missouri River and straddling the border of Kansas and Missouri, Kansas City is not normally seen as a major tourist destination.

If you ask around what it's famous for and inquire about its must-sees, you will invariably be told about its delicious barbecue joints and the old world charm of the Country Club Plaza shopping district. But that's where the recommendations tend to stop. In fact there is still quite a bit more, such as the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art which is housed in an imposing neoclassical building and showcases European paintings and Asian art. Or you could check out the National World War 1 Museum, the zoo, and so on.

Kansas City isa good place to spend a day or so in. You could also use it as a base to venture a bit further out into Kansas and check out the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve or the lively college city of Lawrence. [Review by travelindicator]
