No Roads in or Out

Stunning viewsRemote
Rich wilderness
Glacier fun

Welcome to Juneau ("Joo-noh"), the capital city of Alaska with its stunning nature and views, fishing and hiking; a small caveat attached, there are no roads in or out. The only way to visit is by plane or boat, that said this geographical isolation does make for an interesting place to visit and experience.

Juneau lies near a large ice field, between rugged mountain forests and the water's edge. So whilst it is secluded from the rest of Alaska and the world, it is an ideal base for exploring through these mountain ranges, though some trails are steep so you should be one of those 'outdoorsy' types.

Lonely Planet makes the case that this is arguably the most scenic capital city in the United States.

Have some glacier fun, with walks, helicopter rides (and landings), treks & dog sled rides. We're not sure if we would have Juneau on our must see list, but if I we were travelling around Alaska, it would absolutely be on the itinerary. [Review by nikodonnell]
