With the population of a large village, you really wouldn't expect there to be much going on in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Surfers however beg to differ, and that all started with the 1960s documentary Endless Summer which featured Jeffreys Bay (Jeffreysbaai in Afrikaans) prominently.
Jeffreys Bay has miles and miles of seemingly never ending perfect beaches stretched out in front of it. But it's not the sandy part of them that gets most attention. For surfers it's the supertubes that makes this place rule (supertubes: "a powerful wall, drawing larger swell energy from the upper reefs and funneling it for around 200 yards, letting the skilled surfer dictate the terms of a ride without ever seeming weak or unchallenging"). If you want to surf or learn to surf, this is maybe one of the best places in the world to be. Combined with the all year moderate temperatures of Eastern Cape, and you've got a winner.
If you don't surf, you will still enjoy yourself here. You could for instance head into the Kabeljous Nature Reserve next door for a hike. [Review by travelindicator]
