Wise river

Incheon is a city in northwestern South Korea, only a short distance (less than 40km or 25 miles) away from Seoul. Home to 2.8 million people, it is the third largest city in the country after the capital and Busan. Politically independent from Seoul, and designated as an economic free zone in the 2000s, Incheon seems determined to find its own path forward.

Some of the main attractions here are actually not found on the Korean "mainland" but rather on the islands in front of the coast. In particular Yeongjong Island (go for the seafood and beaches) and Ganghwa Island (go for the architecture and Bugeun-ri Dolmen, a prehistoric burial site listed by UNESCO).

Inside of Incheon proper, the waterfront is a nice area to hang around, shop and eat. The city also boasts the only official Chinatown in South Korea, where you will find the usual fare: colorful decor, Chinese food, tea (and other) shops and temples. Next to Chinatown is Jayu (Liberty) Park where you will find a statue of General MacArthur, nice scenery and other sculptures. It also offers good views of the city and its port.
