Prince Roy

Thailand's royal beach resort

Hua Hin is a favorite beach resort of the Thai royal family
Not as wild nightlife, but an excellent long stretch of beach and good attractions nearby
Attracts a balanced mix of travelers

Hua Hin is a small coastal city in Thailand, located almost on the opposite side of the Gulf of Thailand from Pattaya. At about a 2.5-3 hours drive from Bangkok, it is a beloved beach getaway for the Thai themselves (including Thai royalty) but has in recent years become an item on the itinerary of many foreigners traveling here as well.

One common theme we have noticed from speaking to people who have traveled here is that it exceeded their expectations. While it used to be relatively quiet, now that tourists come in droves, all the big international hotel chains have arrived on the scene and the place has become a fairly developed place. There is plenty to shop and eat, a night market, and Thai dance clubs and bars as well. Don't expect the heated up nightlife of some of the other Thai beach resorts (if that's what you want go there instead!), but rather expect a good balance to satisfy all types of travelers.

The main attraction is the several kilometers long stretch of Hua Hin Beach, lined with hotels and restaurants and with plenty of water sport activities that can be arranged. Outside of town are other attractions such as palaces (for example the Klai Kangwon summer palace), caves, scenic points, temples, parks, waterfalls... [Review by travelindicator]
