Esperance (French for "Hope") is a small town along the Southern Ocean coast of Western Australia. It is situated at about 720km and a 7 hour drive from Perth. Its total population is only a modest 10,000 people, but when we tell you that Perthians don't mind travelling the just mentioned distance just to spend time here, I'm sure you can grasp that this is a place worth visiting.
So what makes Esperance such a sought after destination? It's a bit cliche, but it's mainly that the beaches - Esperance faces the Bay of Islands - here are so white that on a sunny day you had better not look at them directly without your Raybans on. Spending time on them and surfing, diving or simply swimming the day away is what it's all about. Twilight Beach or Lucky Bay are just some of the better known ones, but make a bit of effort and you may just find an inviting empty spot as far as the eye can see.
Pink Lake just outside of town and Esperance Museum are some other sights to check out here, while the scenic drive towards Cape Le Grande National Park is obviously a must-do. Four other national parks around the town are guaranteed to fill the rest of your days. The town itself has a small-town feel to it and is nothing spectacular, but has all the conveniences (shops, restaurants) that you could possibly need. [Review by travelindicator]
