Elkhart Lake is a small town in the east of the US state of Wisconsin. Its population is around 1,000 and it is located at a 1 hour drive from Milwaukee, in the northern parts of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. As it name kind of gives away, the main attraction is the lake with the same name, and as far as scenic towns go, Elkhart Lake ranks right up there.

The lake is not huge by any means (290 acres, or less than a mile by a mile), but large enough to enable water sports like wakeboarding and kayaking. Not to mention that the lake, surrounded by cedar trees, is crystal clear and colors deep blue on a sunny day, making for a very pristine environment.

Elkart Lake may make you feel like you're really getting away from it all, but that doesn't mean the town won't cater to your every need: resorts, bed and breakfasts, golf courses, a handful of shops, pubs and great restaurants are all within short distance from each other.

Outside of town you find Road America, an off-road racing circuit that is 4 miles long and is considered one of America's best. [Review by travelindicator]
