Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary after its capital Budapest. The city is located in the far east of the country, near its border with Romania. It has throughout its more recent history mainly been known as one of the most significant protestant (Calvinist in fact, earning it the nickname "Calvinist Rome") cities of Europe.
Although thus second in size, the population is only just over 200,000 and the city does not have a great number of attractions. The main one is the Great Church (Nagytemplom), which is the city's icon and can be toured. Nagyerdei Park (City Park) is the other main attraction, where you will find a lake and a good place for a stroll. [Review by travelindicator]
