Argentina's second city

Cordoba is the second largest city in Argentina
One of the cultural centers of the Americas, home to the UNESCO listed Jesuit Block
No less than seven universities guarantee that it won't be boring here

Argentina is a massive country. Although a drive from the capital to Córdoba looks doable on a map, you bet that it will take you at least about 7 hours by car. But as this is the second largest city of the country, you don't have much of a choice but to visit if you really want to thoroughly explore the country, do you?

Of course you do have that choice, and many tourists who came before you opted to make the perfectly understandable choice to omit Córdoba from their itineraries as there is so much else to see and do in the country. In the end it comes down to your personal preferences, but for us this city convinced us to go back through its lively and cosy atmosphere (10% of the city are made up of students of the more than half a dozen universities here) and splendid colonial buildings and churches

The best of those can be found in the many blocks around the Plaza San Martín, as good a spot as any to start exploring. Right next to it you will find the UNESCO listed Jesuit block, which it describes as:

"The Jesuit Block in Córdoba, heart of the former Jesuit Province of Paraguay, contains the core buildings of the Jesuit system: the university, the church and residence of the Society of Jesus, and the college. Along with the five estancias, or farming estates, they contain religious and secular buildings, which illustrate the unique religious, social, and economic experiment carried out in the world for a period of over 150 years in the 17th and 18th centuries."
