Chicago is located in the state of Illinois in the American Midwest, and is the country's third largest city with about 2.7 million residents (an amount which easily gets tripled if you count its metropolitan area). Located on the southwestern shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is an enormous city that is often ranked amongst the world's most vibrant - and it has 45 million tourists annually touching down to show for that.
It really isn't hard to tell what those tourists come to Chicago for. It pretty much single-handedly defines what a big metropolis should be like: a fantastic skyline and architecture all around, enormous parks and even miles of beaches sprawling out in front of it. Luxury shopping, theater and arts, wining and dining, we could go on. And it offers all of these with an undeniably friendly and open character that can only be attributed to it being situated in the Midwest. To put it simply (and then we'll stop with the superlatives), the city is in total balance: highly urban and yet perfectly middle American.
So all of that is nice, but what is there to see in the Windy City? Too much to name. Let's start with the museums which are some of the best in the world. You have the Art Institute of Chicago offering an enormous collection of modern and classical arts, or you have the Field Museum of Natural History with its giant T-Rex. The Museum of Science and Industry may just trump them both.
Obviously you wouldn't want to go here without going up and checking out the skyline from the Sears Tower - you may even want to follow up on this by checking them out further from ground-floor level by hopping on a riverboat tour. Afterwards go check out one of the parks, Grant Park and Millennium Park are great places to just walk around and take some snapshots. Then finish of the day by some shopping, some eating, or go and watch comedy in one of the theaters... Didn't we say the possibilities are endless? [Review by travelindicator]
