Brisbane is the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, and with a population of well over 2 million the third largest city of Australia. It is also the country's fastest growing city, foreseen to be one of the fastest growing in the world in the decade ahead.
Brisbane is generally known for being a city with a laid-back atmosphere and friendly people, (as the locals will tell you, especially when compared with its two larger counterparts to the south). Add to the mix a pleasant climate with high temperatures hovering anywhere between 22 degrees in June and 30 degrees in January, and it becomes apparent why this place is fast climbing the charts for travel and living destinations in Australia.
On top of the list of places to go here is South Bank, with its riverside promenade, cultural attractions (such as the Queensland Museum), great restaurants, café's and artificial beaches. This is where you will find locals heating up the barbecue in the weekends. Another place where you will get a full taste of the real Brisbane atmosphere is Fortitude Valley, where you will find quirky shops, the city's Chinatown as well as eclectic nightlife offerings. In the evenings the place is taken over by live music and world famous DJ's.
Those favouring nature can make their way to Mount Coot-tha, which lies right next to the city and has paths for walking and mountainbiking. [Review by travelindicator]
