Bodrum for many is on par with the likes of Cannes or St. Tropez. A hilly backdrop, palm-tree lined streets, French Riviera-esque pebbled beaches, and the rich and wealthy roaming about. Combine that with the influx of charter flights from all over Europe during the summer months, and you have an interesting mix indeed.
That does not mean that Bodrum is either a one-dimensional resort town or a playground for the rich however, most certainly not. In fact it may be the combination of the two crowds that makes Bodrum tick: lay on the beach with the resort goers in the afternoon, dine with sophistication at the waterfront in the evening, and after that go to one of the clubs to party with the young and wild at Halikarnas?
History lovers will find the amphitheatre and Bodrum Castle of interest. The latter is the city's landmark sight, built in gothic style and constructed in the 15th/16th centuries. You can walk around its old walkways, climb its towers and enjoy spectacular views over the marina from many spots. [Review by travelindicator]
