At an elevation of 768 meters, the city of Bandung (population 2.5 million) has a notably more agreeable climate than the other cities of Java. We are looking at you, hot and humid Jakarta. No wonder this is a weekend trip favorite for many Indonesians.
Nicknamed the Paris of Java during colonial times, nowadays the resemblance is sometimes hard to see. Like elsewhere in the country, not all the colonial heritage has been well kept, and chaos has crept in. But hey, this is Indonesia and that is part of what you get here.
We are not trying to say that Bandung is not worth a visit. The nature around the city is lush and spectacular, ranging from tea plantations and natural hot springs to mount Tangkuban Perahu and yes, even rice fields. Inside of the city most Indonesian tourists will tell you that the best things to do are to eat (check out Kampung Daun) and shop (for instance at one of the factory outlets or the Pasar Baru if its souvenirs that you are after). And you might as well check out some of the colonial buildings that *were* kept, while they are still around. [Review by travelindicator]
