On the edge of wilderness

Anchorage is the largest city of Alaska, and the United States' northernmost city with a population above 100,000. Although the urbanised part of Anchorage is only located on a small tip of it, the total area that falls within city limits is more than 6 times that of New York City. Most of it is mountainous and uninhabited.
