Alesund (Norway)

Alesund Travel Guide and Trip Resources

Fjords and Jugendstil

Ålesund is the largest city of western Norway's Møre og Romsdal with a population of 45,000. The city, situated at the very end of a narrow peninsula, is one of Norway's top tourist destinations and is equally famous for it's beautiful natural setting as it is for its colorful Art Nouveau architecture.

Head up to the city park on Mount Aksla for the view over town and surrounding fjords that accompanies this article - bonus points if you do so in the evening or on a snowy winter day. If that landscape appeals to you, you may want to head south from the town and explore the Hjørundfjord. But staying in town and exploring things on foot while heading towards the picturesque harbor is not a punishment either. [Review by travelindicator]
