Let's just speak out what we are all really thinking: that city looks nice, for an African city. Depending on how you interpret that thought (which wasn't really supposed to be printed in black and white, but whatever, we did it anyway), it could come off as either condescending or a compliment. Rest assured though that we mean the latter here.
Abidjan is the capital of Ivory Coast, located at the Atlantic Ocean coast, about 700-800km to the south of there were the African scenery turns from the desperately arid into the lushly green. It has a population of 4 million and although it saw political turbulence from the 1990s onwards, nowadays it is considered relatively safe territory again (writing as of mid 2014). Of course, you should seek out travel advice before heading over, especially if you intend to make your way out of the city.
In terms of things to do here, the nightlife and enormous African market of Treichville, as well as a good national museum and a cathedral are some of the key attractions. [Review by travelindicator]
